Material & Engineering Overview

Dense 99.5% and 99.8% sintered alumina crucibles resist chemical attack from metal oxides, molten salts, glass melts, and high-purity alloys at temperatures up to 1,750 °C. Available from micro-analytical 2–5 mL vessels up to 2,000 mL production saggers, high-purity corundum bodies prevent silica contamination in battery cathode synthesis, phosphor firing, and rare-earth metallurgy.

Crucibles and flat or recessed lids can be ordered together or separately, individually foam-packed for export air transit, and backed by manufacturer batch chemical and physical COA documentation.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA (chemical composition & bulk density) and solid-article safety sheet.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Battery cathode/solid-state electrolyte precursor calcination (NMC, LLZO)
  • Precious metal, superalloy, and specialty glass laboratory melting
  • Thermogravimetric ashing, flux fusion, and loss-on-ignition (LOI) testing
  • Crystal growth and optical oxide synthesis

What to Specify in Your Quote Request

Specify nominal volume (mL) or top OD × bottom OD × height × wall thickness, shape (cylindrical straight-wall, conical, arc, or rectangular sagger), alumina purity, whether matching lids are required, and chemical charge compatibility.

Include target quantity, destination country/postal code for express air freight calculation, and any special cleanroom bagging or certification requests.

Technical & Procurement FAQ

Are matching alumina crucible lids included automatically?
Lids can be quoted either bundled 1:1 with crucibles or as separate line items (often researchers order 20–30% spare lids). Specify flat disc lid or recessed/lipped lid in your RFQ.
When should I choose zirconia or boron nitride instead of alumina crucibles?
Choose YSZ zirconia above 1,750 °C or for aggressive alkaline/Li-rich melts, and choose hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) when non-wetting release of molten metals, silicon, halides, or III-V compounds in inert/vacuum atmospheres is required.
Can alumina crucibles be used with LiOH or strong molten alkalis?
Strongly basic lithium salts (LiOH/Li2CO3) react with Al2O3 at elevated temperatures to form lithium aluminate; for heavy lithiation above 800 °C, high-purity MgO or YSZ zirconia saggers/crucibles are often preferred.
