Material & Engineering Overview

Often called 'white graphite,' hot-pressed hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) shares graphite's layered crystal lubricity, effortless CNC machinability, and extreme thermal shock immunity—while remaining a superb high-voltage electrical insulator with high thermal conductivity (~30–60 W/m·K). Crucially, h-BN is non-wetting to molten aluminum, copper, silicon, gold, silver, halides, and III-V semiconductors (GaAs, InP), releasing solidified melts cleanly without cracking.

We supply pure binderless grades (≥99.5% BN for ultra-clean vacuum/MBE environments up to 2,000 °C in N2/Ar), standard B2O3/CaO-bonded machinable stock, and wear-enhanced BN-ZrO2/SiC composites—each accompanied by lot chemical and density COA.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA (BN %, B2O3/CaO/O2 binder assay, bulk density, porosity) and dimensional inspection report.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • MBE effusion cell crucibles, III-V crystal growth, and silicon/metal melting
  • Ion implanter insulators, Hall-thruster plasma chambers, and PVD HV shields
  • Molten metal break rings, nozzles, and glass-forming release fixtures
  • High-temperature vacuum/inert furnace electrical spacers up to 1,800–2,100 °C

What to Specify in Your Quote Request

Specify operating atmosphere (air vs. vacuum vs. Ar/N2—critical for grade selection!), max temperature, contact melt chemistry, binderless vs. standard grade, and rod/plate/crucible dimensions or CNC drawing.

Include target quantity, destination country/postal code for express air freight calculation, and any special cleanroom bagging or certification requests.

Technical & Procurement FAQ

Why does binder choice (binderless vs. B2O3-bonded h-BN) matter in high vacuum?
Boric oxide (B2O3) sintering aids absorb ambient moisture and begin volatilizing in high vacuum above ~1,200 °C. For UHV, PVD, or semiconductor processes, specify pure diffusion-sintered binderless h-BN (≥99.5% BN) or pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN).
Can I machine h-BN rods and plates in my own lab machine shop?
Yes—hot-pressed h-BN machines easily using standard dry carbide tooling without coolant (never use water-based cutting fluid, as porous/borate grades can absorb moisture) and requires zero post-machining firing.
Does molten silicon, copper, or gold wet hexagonal boron nitride?
No—h-BN exhibits high contact angles with most non-ferrous molten metals, silicon, and molten salts, allowing ingots and solidified beads to drop out cleanly.
