Material & Engineering Overview

Titanium diboride (TiB2) is an ultra-hard refractory boride (MP ~3,225 °C, hardness ~2,800–3,200 HV) that conducts electricity like a metal (~9–15 µΩ·cm) and is completely wetted by—yet chemically resistant to—molten aluminum and cryolite.

We supply both monolithic hot-pressed TiB2 plates/crucibles (which can be shaped by wire-EDM!) and hot-pressed composite TiB2–BN–AlN intermetallic evaporation boats engineered for continuous wire-fed and batch thermal evaporation of aluminum.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA (composition, bulk density, room-temperature electrical resistivity) and dimensional check.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Continuous wire-fed and batch thermal evaporation boats for aluminum metallization
  • Hall-Héroult aluminum reduction cell wettable cathode tiles and molten Al level sensors
  • Wire-EDM machinable ultra-hard wear nozzles, cutting inserts, and ballistic tiles
  • High-temperature electrically conductive heater elements and EDM electrodes

What to Specify in Your Quote Request

Specify monolithic pure TiB2 plate/disc vs. TiB2-BN composite evaporation boat, dimensions (e.g., 110×15×10 mm with cavity), and target resistivity range.

Include target quantity, destination country/postal code for express air freight calculation, and any special cleanroom bagging or certification requests.

Technical & Procurement FAQ

Why are TiB2-BN composite boats preferred over tungsten coils for large-area aluminum evaporation?
Molten aluminum alloys with and dissolves tungsten filaments after a few runs, whereas TiB2-BN ceramic boats are evenly wetted by molten Al with long multi-hour service life.
Can monolithic hot-pressed TiB2 be machined by Wire-EDM?
Yes! Because pure TiB2 has metallic electrical conductivity (~15 µΩ·cm), complex profiles can be cut rapidly by wire-EDM alongside diamond grinding.
Are custom cavity geometries available for TiB2-BN boats?
Yes. Rectangular, oval, and multi-dimple top cavities can be milled to match your wire-feed rate or charge weight.
