Material & Engineering Overview

Resistive thermal evaporation remains the simplest, lowest-radiation-damage PVD technique for contacts, organic semiconductors, halide perovskites, chalcogenides, and metal films. Stamped and precision-formed from ductile vacuum-grade 99.95% tungsten, molybdenum, and tantalum strip (0.127 mm / 0.005" to 0.50 mm / 0.020" thick), our resistive boats deliver predictable current-temperature profiles across low-voltage high-current clamping posts.

We also supply multi-strand twisted tungsten wire baskets (for Al wetting or crucible heating), alumina-coated tungsten boats (preventing molten metal alloying with bare W), and baffled chimney box boats eliminating spitting for SiO, ZnS, and organic/perovskite precursors.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot Metal Purity COA (≥99.95% W/Mo/Ta assay) and gauge/geometry verification.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Thermal evaporation of Al, Ag, Au, Cu, Cr, Sn, In, LiF, MoO3, and MgF2
  • Perovskite photovoltaic (PbI2, MAI, C60, BCP) and OLED organic/metal deposition
  • Alumina-coated boats isolating molten metals that otherwise alloy with bare W/Mo
  • Stranded W helical coils for flash/wire-wetting aluminum metallization

Technical & Procurement FAQ

How do I choose between Tungsten (W), Molybdenum (Mo), and Tantalum (Ta) boats?
Tungsten handles the highest temperatures and resists most molten metals; Molybdenum is economical and ductile for moderate-temp metals and fluorides/oxides (like MoO3, Ag, Cu, MgF2); Tantalum stays ductile after heating (unlike W, which recrystallizes brittle) and is favored for baffled boxes, Cr, and corrosive/organic precursors.
Why does sheet thickness (0.005" vs. 0.015") matter for my power supply?
Thicker boats (0.015"–0.020") last longer and hold larger charges but draw much higher current (e.g., 250–450 A) at low voltage; if your evaporator power supply is capped at 100–150 A, choose thinner 0.005"–0.010" boats or narrow necked profiles.
When should I use an Al2O3-coated tungsten boat?
Use plasma-sprayed alumina-coated boats when evaporating metals like Ni, Fe, Al, or Pd that rapidly alloy with bare incandescent tungsten and burn the boat in half.
