Material & Engineering Overview

Non-oxide structural ceramics excel where oxide ceramics crack from thermal shock or erode in corrosive slurries and molten metals. Pressureless sintered alpha-silicon carbide (SSiC) combines diamond-like hardness (~2,500 HV), high thermal conductivity (>120 W/m·K), and universal acid/alkali resistance up to 1,600 °C in air. Gas-pressure sintered silicon nitride (Si3N4) combines low thermal expansion (3.1 × 10⁻⁶ /K) with high fracture toughness, withstanding direct immersion in molten aluminum and zinc without wetting or thermal-shock failure.

Available as lapped seal rings, wafer-handling paddles, burner tubes, kiln beams, bearing balls, and custom CNC-ground geometries.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA (grade density, open porosity, flexural/hardness spec) and dimensional flatness/tolerance report.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Chemical pump mechanical seal rings, bushings, and slurry nozzles (SSiC)
  • Semiconductor wafer susceptors, lapping plates, and lightweight optical mirrors
  • Molten aluminum/non-ferrous degassing rotors, thermocouple sheaths, and risers (Si3N4)
  • High-load rapid-cycle kiln beams, rollers, and radiant burner tubes

What to Specify in Your Quote Request

Specify SSiC (zero free silicon for HF/strong acid resistance), RBSiC (economical kiln beams), or sintered Si3N4 (high impact & thermal shock), plus dimensions, lapped flatness (light bands), and operating medium.

Include target quantity, destination country/postal code for express air freight calculation, and any special cleanroom bagging or certification requests.

Technical & Procurement FAQ

Why choose pressureless sintered SiC (SSiC) over reaction-bonded SiC (RBSiC) for chemical exposure?
RBSiC contains 8–12% free metallic silicon, which is leached by hydrofluoric/nitric mixtures and strong hot alkalis (KOH/NaOH). Direct-sintered SSiC contains <0.5% free Si and resists virtually all acids and bases.
Can silicon nitride (Si3N4) survive direct immersion into 750 °C molten aluminum?
Yes—dense sintered Si3N4 has exceptional thermal shock resistance (ΔT > 750 °C) and is non-wetting to molten Al, making it the industry standard for foundry thermocouple sheaths and heater protection tubes.
Can SSiC plates be lapped to optical flatness for vacuum chucks or seals?
Yes—diamond-lapped SSiC faces routinely achieve flatness within 1–3 helium light bands and surface roughness Ra < 0.05 µm.
