Material & Engineering Overview

Solid high-purity alumina rods combine extreme compressive strength (>2,200 MPa), high elastic modulus (370 GPa), electrical insulation, and dimensional stability in vacuum and high-temperature oxidizing atmospheres. Extruded or cold-isostatically pressed stock can be supplied as-sintered for furnace rack supports or diamond centerless-ground to tight h6/g6 tolerances for wear pins, plungers, and precision linear alignment.

Ends can be diamond-cut square, chamfered, stepped, or slotted to customer CAD drawings.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA, diameter/straightness/surface-roughness inspection report.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • High-temperature furnace load bars, setter pins, and push rods
  • Ultra-high-vacuum (UHV) mechanical shafts and sensor mounts
  • Wear-resistant plungers, metering pins, and laser/optical spacers
  • High-voltage RF structural tie-rods and standoff insulators

Technical & Procurement FAQ

What surface finish is achieved on centerless-ground alumina rods?
Standard diamond centerless grinding produces Ra 0.4–0.8 µm, with fine lapping/polishing down to Ra 0.05–0.1 µm available for dynamic seal plungers.
Can threaded ends or cross-holes be added to alumina rods?
External ceramic threads are prone to notch stress, so ground steps, flats, cross-pin holes, or brazed/clamped metal sleeves are usually preferred—though coarse ground threads can be quoted to drawing.
Are square and rectangular alumina bars also available?
Yes—square and rectangular cross-section alumina kiln bars and precision ground rails are available from the same 99.5%–99.8% grades.
