Material & Engineering Overview

Fluorphlogopite mica glass-ceramic features randomly oriented microscopic mica platelets dispersed within a borosilicate glass matrix, arresting micro-cracks locally so standard high-speed steel or carbide end mills, drills, and taps can cut tight ±0.013 mm tolerances directly—with zero post-machining kiln firing and zero shrinkage. Unlike porous unfired ceramics, it is 100% dense, non-outgassing in ultra-high vacuum, radiation-resistant, and continuous-rated to 800 °C (1,000 °C peak).

Ideal for fast-turn R&D prototypes, UHV feedthrough blocks, coil forms, synchrotron/beamline fixtures, and aerospace/medical test jigs.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Material Lot Certificate (density, dielectric, thermal spec) and dimensional check report.

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Rapid-turn R&D vacuum chamber electrical blocks, tapped spacers, and PEEK replacements
  • Mass spectrometer, SEM/TEM, and particle-beamline insulating mounts
  • Laser cavity frames, induction heating fixtures, and precision thermal breaks
  • Coefficient-of-thermal-expansion matched mounts (~9.3 × 10⁻⁶ /K matches most metals)

Technical & Procurement FAQ

When should I choose machinable glass-ceramic vs. hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)?
Choose mica glass-ceramic when you need zero porosity for UHV cleanliness, rigid tapped screw threads, or air operation up to 800–1,000 °C; choose h-BN when you need extreme thermal shock immunity, molten-metal non-wetting, or inert/vacuum operation above 1,000 °C up to 2,000 °C.
Does machinable glass-ceramic require heat treatment after CNC machining?
No—parts are machined at full density and go straight from ultrasonic cleaning into service with zero firing shrinkage.
Can standard metric (M2–M12) or unified (#2-56 to 1/2-20) internal threads be tapped?
Yes—standard carbide or HSS taps with flood water-soluble coolant easily cut clean internal threads when using a slightly oversized ~70% thread-engagement tap drill.
