Material & Engineering Overview
Engineered with controlled 75%–82% open macroporosity, high through-plane electrical/thermal conductivity, and customizable hydrophobicity, our graphitized carbon papers and woven carbon cloths manage simultaneous gas transport, water removal, and electron conduction across electrochemical membrane-electrode assemblies (MEAs).
Choose untreated hydrophilic grades for supercapacitors, microbial fuel cells, and vanadium redox flow batteries, or PTFE-wetproofed + carbon/PTFE Microporous Layer (MPL) coated GDL sheets for H2/O2 PEM fuel cells and gas-fed CO2/O2 electrolyzers.
Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA (thickness, areal weight g/m², porosity %, through-plane resistance, and PTFE/MPL wt%).
Primary Research & Industrial Applications
- PEM fuel cell (PEMFC) and anion-exchange membrane fuel cell (AEMFC) cathode/anode GDLs
- Gas-diffusion electrodes (GDEs) for electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2RR) and H2O2 electrosynthesis
- Vanadium, iron-chromium, and zinc-bromine redox flow battery electrodes (Carbon paper, cloth & 3–10 mm PAN/rayon felt)
- Flexible supercapacitors, Li-O2/Zn-air cathodes, and electrocatalyst dip/spray substrates

Technical & Procurement FAQ
Should I choose MPL-coated carbon paper or untreated hydrophilic carbon paper?
For gas-fed reactions (PEM fuel cells, CO2RR gas-diffusion electrodes, Zn-air), use PTFE + MPL coated carbon paper to prevent electrolyte flooding; for liquid-immersed anodes/supercapacitors, use untreated hydrophilic paper or cloth.
Which side of an MPL-coated GDL faces the catalyst layer and membrane?
The smooth, matte black Microporous Layer (MPL) side always faces inward against the catalyst layer/membrane, while the fibrous carbon-paper backing faces the flow-field plate.
Do you also supply thermally activated 3–6 mm graphite felt for Vanadium Flow Batteries?
Yes. Both thin GDL papers (0.1–0.4 mm) and thick PAN/rayon-based battery felts (2–10 mm) can be quoted.
