Material & Engineering Overview

Graphitized above 2,200 °C in inert furnaces, PAN- and rayon-based graphite felts achieve ultra-low thermal conductivity, minimal moisture adsorption, and low volatile outgassing inside vacuum and inert-gas hot zones up to 2,800 °C. Rigid carbon-bonded insulation boards and cylinders—optionally faced with reflective graphite foil or protective C/C composite sheet—provide self-supporting hot-zone barrels for heat-treatment, SiC crystal growth (PVT), and solar ingot furnaces.

Hydrophilically surface-treated PAN graphite felts are also supplied for vanadium, iron-chromium, and zinc-bromine redox flow battery (RFB) porous electrodes.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot COA (carbon %, ash ppm, areal/bulk density, thermal conductivity spec).

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Vacuum & inert-gas sintering, brazing, and crystal-growth furnace hot-zone insulation
  • Induction coil wrap jackets and Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) die radiation sleeves
  • Vanadium and iron-chromium Redox Flow Battery (RFB) porous electrode felts
  • High-temperature inert filtration and thermal cushions

What to Specify in Your Quote Request

Specify soft flexible roll/sheet vs. self-supporting rigid board/cylinder, precursor (PAN vs. lower-conductivity Rayon) or RFB battery-activated grade, thickness, L×W or ID×OD×H dimensions, graphite foil facing needs, and ash purity limit.

Include target quantity, destination country/postal code for express air freight calculation, and any special cleanroom bagging or certification requests.

Technical & Procurement FAQ

When should I choose Rayon-based vs. PAN-based graphite felt?
PAN-based graphite felt has higher fiber strength, cleaner handling, and dominates standard vacuum furnaces up to 2,000 °C plus redox flow batteries; Rayon-based graphite felt achieves ~20–30% lower radiative thermal conductivity above 1,800 °C, favored in ultra-high-temp SiC/sapphire crystal growth.
Is thermal hydrophilicity activation available on graphite felt for vanadium redox flow batteries?
Yes—specify electrochemically/thermally activated RFB electrode felt so electrolyte wets the porous carbon fibers immediately with low cell ohmic resistance.
Can rigid graphite insulation cylinders be shipped pre-slotted with sight-port holes?
Yes—rigid cylinders, end discs, and stepped rings are CNC machined to hot-zone print with graphite foil or C/C inner hot-face linings bonded on request.
