Material & Engineering Overview

Every PVD sputtering, e-beam, thermal, and ALD tool relies on AT-cut piezoelectric quartz monitor crystals to track sub-angstrom deposition rates and film thickness in real time. Precision contoured and lapped from inclusion-free cultured quartz and metallized with adherent Cr/Au or stress-tolerant Ag-Al alloy keyhole/full-pad electrodes, our Ø 14 mm (0.550") crystals fit standard Inficon, Maxtek, Colnatec, Sycon, Intellemetrics, and Ulvac sensor heads.

Supplied in dust-free 10-crystal cleanroom carousel/dispenser packs with 100% resonant-frequency and series-resistance lot testing.

Standard Shipment Documentation: Manufacturer Lot Electrical/Frequency QC Certificate (resonant frequency range, motional resistance Ω, electrode adhesion).

Primary Research & Industrial Applications

  • Real-time thickness and Å/s rate control in e-beam, thermal, and sputter PVD
  • Multi-crystal rotary sensor heads (6-crystal / 12-crystal changers) and single water-cooled heads
  • High-stress dielectric & refractory metal runs using Alloy (Ag/Al) electrodes
  • Research QCM gravimetric gas/vapor sensing (5 MHz & 6 MHz)

What to Specify in Your Quote Request

Confirm your thickness monitor brand/frequency (6.0 MHz vs. 5.0 MHz!), electrode metal (Gold for general metals/organics vs. Alloy for high-stress oxides like SiO2, Al2O3, MgF2, Ti, Cr, W), and number of 10-piece packs.

Include target quantity, destination country/postal code for express air freight calculation, and any special cleanroom bagging or certification requests.

Technical & Procurement FAQ

How do I know whether my chamber uses 6 MHz or 5 MHz QCM crystals?
Inficon (XTM/SQM/IC6), Sycon, and Leybold controllers almost universally use 6.0 MHz crystals, while older Maxtek, Phelps, and certain Ulvac heads use 5.0 MHz. Check your controller menu or spent crystal pack before ordering.
When do Silver/Aluminum Alloy electrodes outperform Gold QCM crystals?
High-intrinsic-stress films (dielectric oxides like SiO2, Al2O3, TiO2, Ta2O5 and high-stress metals like Cr, Ni, Ti, Mo) can peel or mode-hop prematurely on soft gold; compliant Alloy electrodes extend crystal life significantly on stressed coatings.
What is the minimum order for QCM crystals?
QCM crystals are supplied in sealed 10-piece cleanroom dispenser packs, commonly ordered in lots of 3, 5, 10, or 25 packs.
